In 2010, we were invited to Fort William, Ontario, an important fur trade site which Colonel Gaffneyis had last visited in the early 1990s, and which many people remembered fondly. Tactical was already scheduled for that weekend, leaving a double handful of the remaining Clannfolk to pack up our gear and travel to Thunder Bay. We set up on Friday night, July 16, and spent a very interesting Saturday at the Great Canadian Rendezvous as an outpost of 1630s Scotland in Canada of 1815.
The Fort William staff treated us wonderfully well and have invited us to return on July 23-24, 2011, this time as part of a Celtic Fair. Not all of the Celtic Fair is about historic reenactment, but Fort William itself is steeped in history, the site is extensive and well supported, and the folk peopling the fort do first-person interpretation. Our Head Campfollower has already sent out calls and passport reminders. If you are wondering whether it's worth the drive, I think everyone who went last year will tell you YES. And if you have time, you can take in the fur trade circa 1790s on the U.S. side at Grand Portage (http://www.nps.gov/grpo/index.htm).
We'll meet at the Yoders' on Wednesday, July 6, at 7 p.m., to plan the logistics. The trailer will make the trip north only if many more people sign up to go; otherwise, we'll parcel out the regiment's gear among private vehicles, so if you are attending, please have your household represented at the planning meeting. There is more information on the festival here, or just start at Fort William's main Web site (http://fwhp.ca/index.php), and follow the link from festivals and events on the right-hand side of the page to the Celtic Fair. The visit us link on the left-hand side of the page includes a map to the Fort from the Twin Cities. Join us!.

Items must be received by the 15th of each month to be considered for inclusion for the upcoming months issue. Mailed submissions will not be returned unless requested. All pertinent submissions will be considered as space permits. All research articles must reference at least three sources. Submissions may be broken in multiple parts.
Deadline for articles to go in the August newsletter will be the 15th of July.
Present were Karen, Bruce, Mia, Julie. Vice President: We discussed recruiting. Karen is going to follow up with various recruiting possibilities. Treasurer: Bruce reports that we made $5.00 in February. The check is in the mail for Ramble. Mia is to Email John about the state of the musket. We need it back. Julie asked Bruce to publish the budget in the newsletter. Minutes for the Feb. member meeting were approved as given. Drills will finish as scheduled and then we will break for the summer. We need a newsletter article for Woodville and need to finalize the schedule; there will be no Saturday presence. Staff needs to work on Mayday if we are going to do it. Can Renee help? Respectfully submitted...
Present were Karen, Bruce, David, Mia, Julie, and Margaret There were no old minutes. Karen is working on business cards with Pendra and expects to have them this week. Bruce reports the end of the fiscal year with a very small deficit. We need to have the trailer inspected. Mia to ask Herb. Bruce has looked at living history magazines for us to put ads in and thinks Smoke and Fire is the best one. He is also looking at a new source for insurance. The Cannon is a high-liability item and requires *written* safety protocols. Secretary, no reports. No minutes. Quartermaster thanks Glenn McDavid very much for putting guards on the practice swords. Says acquisition of muskets and kiddie pikes is moving along. Reps had no report. Music is very quiet. Drill is at Margaret's this Saturday. Margaret is to call Eric to ask if he can speak on character development. Bruce has donated the book The Burgermeister's Daughter to the library. Ask Jacob if he has a boom box for Woodville. David is working on inviting guests to Johndezvous; we need to figure out policy for this. Mia needs to email Deer River and get with the church in Hudson about a contract. Respectfully submitted...
Present: Margaret Kirkpatrick, Glenn McDavid, Sarah Shaftman, Rich Mueller, Laura Swenson, David Vavreck
Laura will be going She can haul the trailer.
Current estimated attendance is 6-7, possibly just 5-6.
Laurie may not be able to come. Eric cannot attend. Marty will be teaching ink. David can teach pike, singlestick, and wood splitting. Rich can do safety.
Seasoning pots is another activity.
Glenn (who lives in Ramsey County) has some firewood.
Rich and David have axes. The maul should on the trailer or in the garage [, but a subsequent inspection showed that it was not in either place and is hence missing].
Need flint and steel for fire starting.
Margaret has the First Aid kit. She will bring it to the Mini-muster.
We need to bring a tent.
We have a sailor's palm. Glenn will shop for other leatherworking supplies at Gray's Leather.
Elizabeth Erickson has the cook's tent and two troopers. Anthea has the cook's fly and the drum.
The fire buckets are still AWOL. So is one of the poles for the cook's fly and the basket with scrubbies, wool scraps, and detergeant.
We still need to have the trailer inspected. There are electrical problems: The lights do not work. Bruce and Herb know of places that can do this. We don't know if we need to empty the trailer for this inspection and repair.
Bruce discovered that the garage leaks. A mortar was sitting on a wet floor. We don't know whether the leak is in the roof or at ground level.
Some of tents have torn loops for stakes. This is moot: The loops will be replaced by leather grommets. Glenn has some vegetable tanned leather pieces that can be used for this.
Observations by Margaret and Sarah on equipment at Farmington: Reporting to the quartermaster
Cook's fly. One of the two longer uprights out of the four is missing.
Cook's tent
Troopers: II, III, and VII each have one torn loop on the side. III also has one loop missing altogether.
Fire buckets are both missing.
Tripod legs & chain for hanging kettle (as I thought would be useful for the dyepot) were apparently not in the garage. They were certainly not on the trailer.
Handwashing crock needs new spigot, although Sarah thought Bruce said he'd be ordering a new one.
There was some talk of replacing the cooking grate by a tripod with a trammel hook or S-hooks. David noted that S-hooks would be more period. A wooden tripod would actually be more period than iron.
7 PM. Wednesday, July 6. Location: Yoders' house. Logistics for Fort William will be a big topic.

Hello all,
The following is a list of the dates of the events that are currently on the schedule for this year. The staff has met and decided to keep this running list of events in the newsletter to give you a chance to get an idea of what is going on this season as well as keep you updated to changes in the schedule.
The column titled status will include the following information.
Tentative- this means that an event organizer or Clann has expressed a strong enough interest in doing this event that it warrants reserving space on the calendar for the event.
Pending- this is the next stage of an event. This means that the Contracts Administrator has entered serious discussion about Clann doing an event but we are still not committed to the event. You should however if possible think about whether or not you may be able to attend this event.
Scheduled- this level means that the board and staff have approve the event and we are committed to providing manpower to making the event happen. When an event is assigned this level please let the HCF know as soon as possible if you can or can not attend this event.
Canceled- This means that for various reasons an scheduled event has been removed from the current season. We will try and give as much notice as we can prior to canceling an event.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact staff regarding this matter
Thanks,
Your Staff
